Tidal Action at Port Louis Harbour

On 25 May 2025, the Mauritius Ports Authority welcomed the ultra-deepwater drillship Tidal Action at Port Louis Harbour. The vessel moored in the outer harbour at 08:46 hrs and is scheduled to depart on 3 June 2025.This port call forms part of Tidal Action's logistical preparations ahead of its next offshore assignment. During its stay, the vessel will undergo a series of scheduled operations, including bunkering, crew change, provisioning as well as the loading of critical spare parts necessary for its upcoming deployment.

Owned by Hanwha Drilling and recently constructed by South Korea’s Hanwha Ocean, Tidal Action is among the most advanced vessels of its kind. The drillship is designed for ultra-deepwater exploration and boasts a length of 238 metres and a beam of 42 metres. It has the capability to drill in water depths of up to 3,600 metres and reach drilling depths of 12,000 metres, equipped with cutting-edge dynamic positioning systems and high-specification blowout preventers rated at 20,000 psi.

Moreover, this strategic stop in Mauritius marks an important logistics and resupply operation as the vessel prepares for its maiden assignment in Brazil’s Campos Basin. Under a 30-month, USD 500 million charter agreement with Petrobras, Tidal Action will commence drilling operations at the Roncador Field in the third quarter of 2025. Constellation Oil Services will provide operational management during this charter.

The Mauritius Ports Authority is proud to facilitate the operational readiness of such a technologically sophisticated vessel and to reaffirm Port Louis’ role as a critical maritime logistics hub in the Indian Ocean. The port’s capabilities in marine services, crew handling and cargo management make it an ideal stopover for global energy and exploration vessels heading to key project locations.
