Port Louis Harbour (PLH) is the main port of the Republic of Mauritius.  As the country’s primary maritime gateway, PLH plays a crucial role in the national economy.  The port handles 99.5% of the country’s total volume of external trade, that is almost 7.5million tonnes of cargo annually.

Mauritius, through its geographical position, is located on one of the busiest shipping lane connecting central Asia, Africa and South America. This presents opportunities for offering bunkering services and gradually Port Louis Harbour has been witnessing a constant rise in the supply of bunker fuels to vessels plying in the east to west shipping route and vice versa.

Over the years, Port Louis Harbour has known much transformation in terms of infrastructural developments, which have enabled the Port to accommodate greater volume of maritime traffic, including larger cruise vessels.

With an Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of 1.9 million square kilometres together with an extended continental shelf area of 396,000 square kilometres, jointly managed with the Seychelles, Mauritius can boast of a sustainable availability of fish, which has effectively supported its seafood industry.

With the upsurge in South-South trade, Port Louis has emerged as a preferred way port for vessels plying on the key maritime routes to Asia, Africa and Latin America.  The MPA supports the needs of its clients with an effective ‘one-stop-shop’ approach which enables vessels to optimize their stay when they call at Port Louis.
