A series of activities were planned on 10 March 2017 in the context of the national day, which kicked off with Mr Ramalingum Maistry, Chairman of the Mauritius Ports Authority (MPA) attending the flag raising ceremony at Hurrypersad Ramnarain Government School, Terre Rouge, as Guest of Honour. Late Mr Hurrypersad Ramnarain, O.B.E, was the first Chairman of the then Mauritius Marine Authority (now MPA) and both the school as well as the current seat of the MPA building bear his name.
Mr Ramalingum Maistry also offered a cheque of MUR 15,000 to Alliance Française for the purchase of books for the pre-primary school of Hurrypersad Ramnarain Government School on the day.
Mer Rouge: The national day activities continued at the seat of the MPA, where another flag raising ceremony was organised by the HR department of the MPA for our staff. Staff gathered at the main entrance of the Authority on the sunny day. This year, Mr R. Bissesur, Chief Officer (Finance), one among the eldest members of staff of the Authority (he joined in March 1977) was entrusted the privilege of hoisting up our national flag while our national anthem resonated solemnly across the MPA grounds.
Mr Ramalingum Maistry, referring to the stele at the feet of the flag poles commemorating the 40th Anniversary of the MPA, seized the opportunity to comment on the laudable and unflinching support of the Maritime Transport & Port Employees’ Union (MTPEU) and the Mauritius Ports Authority Maritime and Other Staff Union (MPAMAOSU), in making Port Louis Harbour the preferred maritime gateway in the region of the world.
Following the flag raising ceremony, some staff gathered in the Conference Room for the symbolical presentation of the 40th Anniversary Souvenir of the MPA by senior management to some employees. Mr Ramalingum Maistry thanked those present; many of them having over twenty years of loyal service to the Authority, for their contribution in building Port Louis Harbour before proceeding with the presentation of souvenir.
The day ended with distribution of cakes to all staff, courtesy of the Management of the MPA and facilitated by the HR department.
